College Board Advanced Placement: AP Daily
Roles: Video Producer, Art Director, Production Manager, Editor
In early 2020, schools started closing across the country or switching to hybrid in-person and online instruction. To support high school students’ preparation for exams in 2021, I worked with the AP program to quickly produce AP Daily, a suite of narrated lectures for all 38 courses that were released weekly during the school year.
Our team included 23 remote full-time video producers, 8 freelance production assistants, external software vendors, and a cast of 200 of the most effective AP teachers from around the country. Over the course of 8 months, we produced ≈5000 videos with an average length of 10–15 minutes. In the first 7 months from launch, AP students racked up 19 million video views with at least 95% completion and 23 million total views.
Our priority for this project was to deliver high quality instruction recorded remotely within short timeframes. We cast teachers around the country whose students scored high on exams, and in a few courses, my production team worked alongside AP teachers to enhance the visual content of their lessons. Here is an example of a Human Geography lesson in which my team worked with an instructor to create visual representations of city structures:
In combination with an initiative to deliver exams online instead of in person for 2021, our project was a success: AP students completed their exams and received college credits in preparation for higher ed opportunities.
